“Materiality is fundamental to me, I only work with materials I think of as 'honest' in what they are and what they represent. The lists of materials annotating artworks are as interesting to me as the work itself."

Henrietta Otto Cane (b.1996), known by Etta Otto, is a London based multidisciplinary artist whose practice crosses conceptual hand-crafted sculpture, drawing and printmaking.

After focusing both their undergraduate and postgraduate studies on textiles, Otto's approach to the visual arts has deep roots in the methodology and practice of traditional textile making, with hand weaving, fibre spinning and hand dyeing playing a centralised role in their process. Additional avenues of ceramics, sculpting, metalwork and printmaking were developed once Otto graduated from the Royal College of Art.

“The handmade object has always held an emotional significance with me. The residue of human touch, effort and care transforms an object into an endearing capsule of real life sentiment and intent."
